BOSTON, MA, March 15, 2016 – As part of Massachusetts General Hospital’s Master Plan, Walsh Brothers was recently awarded the initial phases of the Legacy OR project. The renovation will provide for a new Operating Suite modeled after the Lunder Building, which was designed to provide the highest quality patient care for specific patient populations, in regard to materials and finishes; the new Perioperative spaces will be modeled after the new Ellison 3 suite. The space being renovated includes the entire third floor of the White Building and part of the third floor of the Gray Bigelow Building on the Massachusetts General Hospital Campus.
This three-phased portion of the project involves the renovation of 8 Operating Rooms to provide for pediatric and general surgery, 18 Perioperative Rooms – some for pediatric and some for adult overflow, 9 Perioperative cubicles, Pediatric waiting room, Clinical Engineering for Perioperative Services, Central Sterile Processing and supply satellite, a pharmacy suite and an Anesthesia work room.
Walsh Brothers was chosen for this project in part because of our extensive experience building within sensitive healthcare and medical facilities while ensuring safety and minimal disruption to patients, staff and visitors of the facility. We have tried and true practices when it comes to Interim Life Safety Measures (ISLM) and Infection Control plans, and have policies in place to ensure that construction does not interfere with life saving procedures that occur at these types of facilities.
We will be working alongside the designer, Linea 5, inc., consultant, Thompson Consultants, Inc., and engineer, R.G. Vanderweil Engineers, LLP to ensure a successfully completed project for Massachusetts General Hospital and the community it serves.
