BOSTON, MA, April 25, 2016 – Working closely with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s (MIT) Department of Facilities, Walsh Brothers, Incorporated is nearing completion of Phase One providing construction management services overseeing the modernization and replacement of 11 elevators and MEP and fire alarm upgrades in five separate buildings around MIT’s Cambridge campus. As part of the modernization and renovation of the elevators in MIT Buildings 3, 24, 39, E25 and W20, replacement of elevator machines, cabs, sheaves, motors and drives, and hall and car fixtures will be completed, and adjacent finishes will be refreshed. This complex work was carefully planned and executed without disrupting the ongoing and sensitive activities throughout the MIT campus including multiple research labs, the president’s office and administration building, an open dining hall and campus bookstore. Final construction, testing and occupancy for Phase One is on schedule to be completed by December 2016. Phase Two will begin immediately after Phase One has been completed.
