Sturdy Memorial Hospital this week announced the selection of Walsh Brothers, Inc. as the construction manager for the fourth and final phase of the hospital's multiphase new addition and renovations project.

The project will require the demolition of the hospital's Sturdy Building at the center of the Sturdy Memorial campus, and the construction of a new facility for Endoscopy services in its place. The approximately 23,000-square-foot new building will be designed and constructed to accommodate future vertical expansion. Significant infrastructure upgrades are also included in the project scope.

The Boston architecture firm of HDR + Warner Associates has already begun design work on the new building. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2008.

Walsh Brothers will guide the complex construction process, which will require careful phasing and logistics to ensure minimal disruption to ongoing operations in the three hospital buildings bordering the site.

"We feel that Walsh Brothers team offers the right combination of healthcare construction experience and innovative thinking to see this project through," says Jim Gilmore, Director of Facilities Operations.

Walsh Brothers is a fourth-generation, family-owned construction management firm headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts. The firm, founded in 1901, has extensive healthcare construction experience for a range of notable clients including Massachusetts General Hospital, Women & Infants' Hospital and Rhode Island Hospital.
