On Thursday, October 26, 2007, the Associated General Contractors of Massachusetts hosted the 2007 Build New England Awards ceremony. This prestigious biannual competition recognizes the accomplishments of exceptional project teams that completed the construction of building projects in New England over the past two years.
Walsh Brothers, Incorporated was the only construction management firm recognized for four projects, receiving awards for the Replacement of the Orchestra Floor at Boston Symphony Hall, the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), the EMC Club and State Street Pavilion at Fenway Park and the Master plan Renovation and Expansion at the Redwood Library and Athenaeum in Newport, RI. - Acknowledging the extreme specialties and sensitivities that were required to replace the original, 105-year-old stage floor in what is judged to be one of only three perfect concert halls in the world, the Boston Symphony Hall Performance Floor Replacement project was bestowed an Honor Award.
- An Honor Award was also given to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Massachusetts General Hospital, a project requiring construction in a highly intrusive setting which had the potential of disrupting critical clinical procedures. The Walsh Brothers team worked many hours off hours and put into place comprehensive infection control procedures to minimize danger to critically ill patients.
- The Fenway Park EMC Club and State Street Pavilion project was presented a Merit Award for the accomplishment of an ambitious concept in a sensitive historical environment at record speed. Nearly $50 million of highly complex construction was completed within the six month winter off-season.
- The restoration and expansion of the Redwood Library and Athenaeum received a Performance Award, celebrating the innovation in reconstructing this historical landmark (1750) to 18th century standards, while seamlessly introducing 21st century technology.
"Over the past 106 years, Walsh Brothers has had an opportunity to have a major impact on the region's skyline through our involvement in many challenging and high profile construction projects," says Richard C. Walsh, Executive Vice President. "We are proud to be recognized by the AGC with four Build New England Awards, and we are especially grateful for the collaboration of our Owner, Design and engineering partners on these projects, without whom, our success would not be possible."
