Caritas St. Elizabeth's Medical Center Celebrates Emergency Department Milestone with Walsh Brothers, Incorporated

Boston, MA – Members of the Caritas St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center community recently gathered to celebrate a major milestone in the development of the new William F. Connell Emergency Department and Urgent Care Facility; a project that has been 10+ years in the making.  The Topping Off ceremony commemorates the completion of Phase I; the demolition of the pre-existing structure and the construction and steel erection of the ER department’s exterior.

Christopher O’Connor, President of St. Elizabeth’s along with Mark D. Pearlmutter, MD, Chief of Emergency Medicine were on hand to congratulate Walsh Brothers’ on-site team and all of the construction tradesmen for their relentless efforts during the steel erection process.

Prior to the final beam being lowered into place at the top of the building, politicians, trustees, administrators, staff, and all those involved with the construction process were invited to autograph the piece of steel. Afterwards, it was hoisted skyward along with a small pine tree and American flag – symbolizing the success of the project thus far as well as bestowing good luck for the future of the building and its inhabitants.

Caritas St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center and Walsh Brothers will significantly elevate the future treatment and level of care to St. Elizabeth’s patients through the construction of this new 45,700 square foot Emergency Department and Urgent Care facility. Ralph de la Torre, M.D., President and CEO of Caritas Christi Health Care spoke of how excited Caritas is to have the ability to provide a state-of-the art facility that will serve as the front door to the community and the face of St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center.
