On Friday evening, December 1st, Walsh Brothers hosted its first annual WBI Winter Classic employee pick-up ice hockey game, contested at Boston’s North End Steriti Rink. The two team combatants comprised of players representing the “Field”, captained by Andrew Affronti, versus the “Office”, captained by Marc Fishman.

The Las Vegas odds-makers were rumored to have the Field as strong 2-goal favorites, but as the veteran Office players hung in with the ever-youthful and spirited Field players, the final outcome was never in doubt with the Office staggering to a decisive 8-5 victory. After only two shifts of up-paced back-and-forth fore-checking and back checking, very few icing calls, no penalties and no off sides being called, several players were witnessed trying to bribe the Zamboni driver to cut the hour of ice time short!

Post-game ice packs were administered to injuries while self-medicating and storytelling ensued at the post-game festivities. Awards of distinction were earned by the following:

Most Youthful Player – Jim Guiry, Sr.

Most Vocal, Loud, and Chirpy Player – Brad Forrest

Scrappiest Winger – James Brosnan

“Dirtiest” Player – Tod Tryder

Best Throwback Era Equipment – Peter McKay

Best Time Keeper – Richard Walsh

Losing Team MVP – Andrew Affronti

Revenge is expected at the upcoming employee ski outing in Killington, Vermont.
